Bluebonnet Philharmonic Orchestra

Adopting the name Bluebonnet Philharmonic Orchestra in 2022, the BPO was established at the founding of Central Texas Musical Arts in 2021 as the premier ensemble of CTMA.  BPO plays a wide range of orchestral music including pops, music from movies, light classical pieces such as overtures, full symphonies, and collaborations with featured soloists and choirs.

Our Conductors

Christopher Koenig

Christopher Koenig is a passionate conductor and educator, he is committed to making music accessible and meaningful for all. His work emphasizes building strong connections between ensembles and their communities through creative programming, engaging performances, and lasting partnerships with schools and local organizations. Koenig’s repertoire choices balance timeless classics with new and familiar sounds, always with the goal of delighting both seasoned concertgoers and first-time listeners.

Koenig began conducting while studying at the College of Wooster and Ohio University under Nancy Ditmer, Richard Suk, and John Climer. He went on to teach at both the elementary and secondary levels, directing bands, jazz ensembles, musical theatre, and choirs. He also serves in the United States Army as a Sergeant First Class with the 36th Infantry Division Band, where he leads the Lone Star Band’s marching and ceremonial training as a Senior Enlisted Conductor. His military service has been recognized with the Col. Finley Hamilton Award for Military Musicians, along with numerous additional honors.

Beyond the podium, Koenig is a dedicated coach and mentor, helping young teachers grow in confidence and craft. He believes music is more than notes on a page—it is a transformative force that inspires passion, connection, and joy for performers and audiences alike. He lives in Round Rock with his wife, Jennifer, a master educator and arts advocate, and their daughters, Lorelai, a violinist and artist, and Cora, a flutist and dancer.

Conor Brace

Conor Brace is a composer and trumpet player from Austin, Texas.  Conor has always been fascinated by music’s ability to tell stories. Originally a jazz musician, he performed as a trumpet soloist and wrote for big bands and other groups while obtaining his Master’s Degree in Jazz Composition at the University of Texas at Austin.

As he was finishing up his degree, Conor began studying traditional orchestration along with media music production. Collaborating with student filmmakers and game developers became a new obsession, and it provided an opportunity for combining jazz/pop sensibility with the emotive power of the orchestra. Conor currently lives in Liberty Hill with his wife Whitney, who runs Liberty Hill Pharmacy, and their daughter Brienne, who thinks they are both very silly.

Conducting Fellows

Daniela Perez

Season 6 (2026 - 2027) Conducting Fellow

Daniela was born in Mexico. Sixteen years ago, she moved to the US with her husband and son. After a few years of adjusting to life in a new country, she successfully balanced her role as a mother with her passion as a vocalist.

Daniela studied music and voice at the Escuela Superior de Música y Danza de Monterrey, Mexico. As an active singer there, she fell in love with opera and art music. She was also part of two a cappella vocal ensembles that opened doors to the world of conducting. Later, Perez Santos performed with the professional Milwaukee Symphony Chorus in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Once she moved to Texas, she joined the Austin Opera choir for a couple of seasons. She also began volunteering at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church as a cantor and chorister, which eventually led to an opportunity to conduct the St. Elizabeth Chamber Choir as one of the Sunday choirs. Last year, she was an active member of Chorus Austin.

Wonderful orchestra conducting opportunities soon followed. She substituted for the orchestra director at Cedar Ridge High School during a maternity leave. This experience deeply impacted her life as a conductor; nothing proved more gratifying than leading high school students who find beauty and passion in music. Daniela has also conducted the orchestra for the last three musicals at the Grace Theatre Guild—a community theatre where local instrumentalists collaborate to provide live music for productions. Specifically, Daniela led the orchestra for Seussical the Musical, Cinderella, and My Fair Lady.

Daniela considers herself lucky to have a very musical family. Her son, Gael, plays cello and is a composer; her daughter, Sarah, plays violin and is a dancer; and her husband, Pepe Alvarez, is a pianist who serves as her greatest inspiration.

Step by step, Daniela is finding her path in the orchestral world. She is incredibly grateful to the Bluebonnet Philharmonic Orchestra and Chris Koenig for the opportunity to continue her growth as a Conducting Fellow this season.

Emma Strub

Season 4 (2024 - 2025) Conducting Fellow

Emma Strub is an established violist and conductor in the Austin area. An Austin native, Strub returned to Austin in early 2023 after completing a Masters degree in Orchestral Conducting from Northern Arizona University. Previously, she held Assistant Conductor positions with the Austin Symphony Orchestra and Orchestra Northern Arizona. In addition to her Masters in Orchestral Conducting, Strub holds a Bachelor’s degree in Viola Performance from the University of Memphis, and a Masters in Viola Performance from Rutgers University.

Strub is a prolific freelancer in both conducting and viola. She regularly performs with local ensembles such as Density512, the Balcones Community Orchestra, and the Austin Civic Orchestra. Strub is very interested in contemporary music and regularly collaborates with local new music projects, often performing at KMFA’s Draylen Mason Studio. Strub is an active member of the Sienna Strings Collective and Swan Songs Musical Last Wishes.

Strub lives in Hyde Park with her partner, Dr. Michael Martinez. She greatly enjoys chamber music and can often be seen at ATX Classical Jam and Classical Trivia nights.
